In 2012, one billion international tourists crossed international borders in a single year for the first time. A campaign was launched by UNWTO aiming to reach as many people as possible with a simple message: one billion tourists mean one billion opportunities to make the world more sustainable, inclusive and prosperous for all.
One billion tourists, 10% of the world’s GDP, exports of 1.5 US$ trillion annually and one in eleven jobs worldwide. It’s huge
Are you aware?
International tourist arrivals grew by 7 % in 2017 to 1,323 million | By 2030, UNWTO forecasts international tourist arrivals to reach 1.8 billion
You get to hear lot of stories of people like you and me, People born in small towns with basic facilities have made it big in tourism industry,, inspired by their role models they too grew up with big dream, searched for better opportunities, people who wanted to make it big in their life, tourism has provided them with ample opportunities.
You can feel a radical change in the way people travel influenced by the new trend, they no more want to be herded. Second change you could witness is people no more visit places they experience it. They do not mind to add the last leg of the journey or part of itinerary with real life experience. Tradition, culture, adventure or to learn something new, something genuine which will enlighten, add up to their knowledge.
UNWTO’s Tourism Stories allow you to gain insight into how people and communities are shaped by the sector, highlighting how an individual´s work has the ability to unlock community value chains, inspire empowerment and revitalize traditions of the past to set the foundations for the future.
